CHIGWELL: Elvis' daughter pledges to become charity patron 6:21pm Tuesday 30th November 2010

                                      By Clare Hardy »

ELVIS' daughter has vowed to become a patron of a charity after being impressed by its work at a fundraising ball.

Lisa Marie Presley was one of the celebrity guests at the Snowball held at the Prince Regent in Chigwell on Saturday in aid of Hainault-based charity The Dream Factory.

Actors Ray Winstone and Sid Owen, who are both patrons of the charity, and Amanda Redman were also among guests at the star-studded event, which raised £59,000 towards granting the wishes of terminally-ill children and those with life-threatening illnesses or disabilities.

Organiser Avril Mills said: “We have granted 83 dreams in under three years, so the money is going to go towards a lot more dreams. It costs between £500 and £5,000 for a dream.

“Lisa Marie Presley was very nice and she now wants to become a patron of the charity.

“We talked about the charity and she brought a big framed picture of Elvis, which she got flown over for The Dream Factory from Graceland, and that raised £7,000.”

More than 280 people from all over London and Essex, attended the ball, which also included performances from dancers and a show band.

I am saddened by the sudden passing of my good friend Leslie Nielsen.

It is still hard to believe. I have such wonderful memories of him on and off the set. He always had great stories to share about people in his life, acting and being somewhat re-discovered late in his years. He was an absolute joy to work with and was so much fun to be around. I never knew what to expect from him as he loved to shock people, including me, to get reactions from his antics.

As Frank Drebin he could get away with anything; and did. Maybe, that was the real Leslie Nielsen? You would never know he was as old as he was because there was always a kid inside ready to play. And being Frank, allowed him that.

This was the Leslie I knew. I will miss him: His funny face, his walk, his great lines, and yes, even his famous whoopie cushion, of which, he always carried with him. There will always be a special place in my heart for him.

My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Leslie Nielsen, who made audiences laugh with his ridiculous seriousness and deadpan deliveries in the absurd scenes of comedy films like Airplane! and The Naked Gun has died. He was 84.

His agent confirmed that the actor died Sunday near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., surrounded by his "lovely wife and friends" at 5:34 p.m. ET, due to complications of pneumonia.

Nielsen had been hospitalized for nearly two weeks as a result of pneumonia, his agent said.

"Just in this last 48 hours, the infection has gotten too much," his nephew Doug Nielsen told
Canadian radio station CKNW. "He just fell asleep and passed away."
