It’s nearly impossible not to become obsessed with celebrity weddings. Extravagant budgets, famous guest-lists, and jaw dropping decorations contribute to the wow factor of celebrity weddings. While Kim Kardashian and Kate Middleton might have their weddings googled more often than Priscilla Beaulieu, the marriage of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Beaulieu was quite the event of its time.
The gossip and excitement of the Presley’s exchanging of vows wasn’t solely because of the wedding itself, but rather the marriage. On May 1, 1967, the couple wed in the small second-floor suite of the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. Super Court Justice David Zenoff presided over the nuptials, and the entire ceremony concluded in less than ten minutes. Naturally, a press conference was held directly after the ceremony, and was followed by a breakfast reception for one hundred guests. The Presley’s didn’t try to fight the press, but instead befriend them. Many members of the press were actually invited to the reception!
Priscilla’s wedding style was pure modern glamour. From her teased hair, to her thick eyelashes and precise eyebrows, she was truly a vision! Donning a traditional white dress with lace and sequins, Priscilla looked elegant and fashionable.
Elvis was a decent ten years older than his bride. Priscilla was a mere fourteen years of age when Elvis first laid eyes on her. Being a gentleman, he was patient and very careful with her as he waited for her to be of marrying age. Priscilla was said to have been a very mature girl, interested in things that most adults were. She handled herself in a very ladylike manner with Elvis, and surprisingly controlled her giddiness and excitement, despite the fact that the king of rock and roll was interested in her.
Inspired by Priscilla and Elvis? Here are a few tips to create a Presley- inspired wedding:
The Dress: An updated version of Priscilla’s dress. Short, lacy, and totally glamorous.
The Veil: Priscilla’s veil was about mid-length, and full of volume! Coordinating with her black beehive hair, the veil was full of attitude and sass. This veil is similar, but a slightly toned down version.
The Nails: Priscilla chose long, natural nails covered with a nude, blush toned polish.
The Lashes: A swipe of eyeliner and a set of bold, fake lashes will give you the same knock-out look that Priscilla wore on her wedding day.

Whether you incorporate lots of Priscilla’s details into your wedding, or decide to create your own style, it’s unimaginable not to gain some inspiration from this style icon and beautiful bride!

"A Look Back" is a daily column that highlights a moment from fashion's fabulous past. Today's pick is of Elvis' former wife, Priscilla Presley. Shopping in Beverly Hills on March 18, 1974, Presley wore studded denim head-to-toe. Would you give this look a try?

Here is a brand new cover I shot with the ever beautiful Priscilla Presley for Westlake Malibu magazine. Priscilla is one of the most classy people I have ever worked with. Her charm and class come out in every photo I take of her. Pick up a copy of Westlake Malibu magazine or go to the site online to see the complete spread. Happy New Year.
